i'm not sure. there are what i am told are some pretty questionable stereotypes. i personally find it completely delightful. maybe download the pilot and see if you like it? anna paquin won a golden globe for her role in it, and you know how the industry hates genre shows, so it must be pretty special. :)

My understanding is that the original book series had fae -- but they were supposed to be scary fae. Whether Michelle Forbes' character is fae, I'm not certain. I'd be interested to know the connection between her and Sam, to be honest.
