Why McCain Should Worry Women. McCain's War on Women. McCain and Women's Issues: It's More Than Just Roe.

i should probably know better than to bait, so i won't. i WILL say that while finding these items i ran across a cafepress store that sold t-shirts which said, "real women vote mccain; androgynous wimps don't!"

Actually, the buzz is that McCain is planning on asking a woman to be his running mate, Sarah Palin -- the current governor of Alaska. This according to the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/30/us/politics/29palin.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Of course, it could just be a move to combat Obama's minority appeal and affect nothing of McCain's policies overall -- but there you go.

yeah, "feminist" republicans are insisting that, because the republicans now have poon on their ticket, clearly they're glory beautiful with the womenfolk. nevermind that she's an anti-choice homophobe. SHE HAS THE SPLIT BITS. SHE COUNTS.

ugh, republicans.

i know. and yet, there are people insisting that feminists ought to vote mccain b/c he's got a girl on the ticket.

because that's not sexist at all. because the magical XX chromosome totally has the feminist override button over little things like, say, policy.

The ONLY reason he chose her was to try and sway the Hillary supporters. It ain't gonna happen. Especially if Hillary continues to be vocal and visible speaking out against McCain and his underhanded BS in appointing a woman as his running mate.

If you don't mind, I'm gonna repost those link my own journal.

it IS happening. there are a lot of misguided women who are just that willfully ignorant. whether their numbers are great enough to make a difference is all that remains to be seen.

God, sometimes I just don't understand my own gender. Why does anyone think that someone else has the right to tell us what to do with our own damn bodies and minds. I just, I just don't get it.

Please gods, people don't fall for it.

This is exactly it, you know? I keep reading this as a carpe diem move on his part (which, yeah, politics, but don't insult me in the process, you moron). Seems to me like he's trying to say how open-minded he is, how understanding of the times and the nation's situation he is, meanwhile all I'm getting is a childishly competitive read on how he's the one with the woman on board, and thus he's the one feminists and heck, women in general should vote for.

It's highly annoying. And by annoying I mean insulting. I may have gagged when reading about it.

and thank god.

there are people out there who call themselves feminists who have the brass to say that this is a reason for people to vote for mccain, and i'll be honest: they're the ones that sicken me the most.

UGH. He's so disgusting. And so is his VP candidate. I do not understand how a woman identifying as a feminist in the slightest could vote for those two. Is it just me, or does McCain's VP choice reek of desperation? Hrmmm.

If the McCain ticket wins in November, I'm moving to Canada, Danny. I mean it. I've already accepted the fact that he'll probably win my stupid state; he can't have my whole country too. *stand firm*

Politics makes me TUMMY HURT. I need the election NOW.

moving to canada is not the way to stand firm in defense of your country, my jimi. pledge instead to convince one liberal to gain US citizenship so they can vote. :D

Yes, you're right. I think, though, it is an empty threat, because I have not accepted the possibility that McCain could win. Which is probably really naive of me, but. Eef. *wring hands*

Obama will win! Because I say it will happen! \o/! I talk a lot about Obama vs. McCain with my conservative friends, which helps sometimes, doesn't help others, but I've never considering trying to help someone get US citizenship. o.o Granted, I've always assumed it took a while! Unless you mean, like, people who are hanging around waiting for the 5/6/whatever years to pass and could be fast-tracked to citizenship if they married a citizen (in which case, it's only 3 years, I think)?

Hrmmm.

And omg I'm sorry I can't post in the RIGHT PLACE. Long morning/afternoon. :-/

Here's the thing, I don't actively identify with feminism. I don't consider myself one as I'm not active in the movement, but even I can see this move for what it is and the second I read that he had appointed a woman, I knew exactly why and it made me snort loud enough that my boss said what? It gives me the chills because my first thought was you f****r, how DARE you.

*nod nod*

It's so disturbing. It's definitely not just a feminism thing though, it's a women thing. Which is all kinds of scary, and I am worried about how many people will buy into it - for whatever it's worth, my semi-conservative, mostly-Republican-voting mother decided today she couldn't possibly vote for McCain now, given his VP choice. I think she, along with a lot of other people I know, were hoping for a VP candidate that would balance out McCain's Bush 2.0-ness, and getting one that will likely think just like him isn't doing him any favors.

It's amazing how many McCain supporters I know (and I know a LOT, woe) actually hate the guy (seriously - it's just hard to get them to admit it) - for them, it's not so much about supporting McCain as it is having a vote against Obama. SIGH.

This seriously just makes no sense to me and it makes me angry. Just to take votes away from Obama is NOT a good reason to vote for a power hungry warmonger who is clearly out of touch with any reality that doesn't involve a six figure salary. That's like people who are going to vote for McCain simply because their family is republican and they've always voted republican, without ever exploring the other candidates platform.

Yes, that's always always always disappointed me. :(

In my area, what I keep hearing is that uber-Republicans keep telling conservatives (particularly the on-the-fence, Christian sort) that Obama is the Anti-Christ - that's, unfortunately, something Republicans love to do. Let's tell everybody Obama's the Anti-Christ, then they'll give their vote to McCain just to make sure Obama can't win! Eff. They've done it with around a dozen Democrats in my rather short life. And that's ... really dirty politics, to me. The people who are believing what they told and being completely ignorant deserve as much of the blame, but to use someone's religion and beliefs to make another candidate look like a step below their Ultimate Evil is really effing low to me.

So, the result is that even people who are scared to death of having McCain in the office because of political reasons are being convinced that Obama is the greater evil from a religious viewpoint. Which is a whole new kind of disturbing, since it's just a SCARE TACTIC Republicans are using to grab the religious vote.

And God knows that Republicans are the masters at scare tactics. Example: The Red, Orange, Yellow and Green terrorist alerts that were so popular with the press.

Bush: They're starting to question the war, Dick.
Cheny: Don't worry W., I can fix that. We'll just up the Terrorist Alert to Orange, they'll fall right back in line.

UGH. Exactly. The sad thing is that it WORKS, and too many people do just fall back in line. DOUBLE UGH.

It's like watching a three ring circus. Our presidential election should not be to having of the sensationalism. It's undignified.

And any candidate who plays on people's ignorance is not getting my trust, much less my vote. OTOH I think Obama's the most honest politician I've ever SEEN.
