It's like staying in a country where no-one speaks your language. When you happen to run across a person who *does*, you'll talk to him for an hour, even if he's the most boring person ever, just because you can speak your own language. (see, you're not the only one prone to babble)
By the way, I think I read somewhere (the lexicon of useless information, no doubt) that Japan has really great beef. Also very expensive because, you know, the country's so terribly overpopulated that providing enough room for cattle is a really costly thing. Huh.
Sorry to but in on the conversation. Japan has very expensive beef from a few very tradtional places, but I think you mean Kobe beef. Part of the reason it's so expensive (not just the necessary arable land in a country that is approximately 75% mountainous) is that Kobe cows are kept in slings, so they don't walk around all day producing touch muscle, they're given massages every day, and on top of their usual feed, drink a bottle of beer each day as well. In an upscale restaurant you can expect to pay at least 200.00 USD a plate. There are other regions in Japan that produce beef, and it's fairly expensive as well, but not nearly to the level of Kobe beef.
