Dear my Buffy-related flist:

So, is it me, or does it seem like a little bit of a ghost town around here lately?

It seems also like it's not so much us - it's our beloved fandom that's depressed. Few fic, less icons, and I haven't seen much meta, either. What's up out there? I know we haven't run out of stories, and speaking for myself, new fandoms don't steal my energy from Buffy, but rather amp my energy overall. So WTF, mate? Are we all mood swinging? Let's dig up the source of the problem and maybe to fix, mm?

Meantime, life was mainly kind to me this weekend. Played Firefly, watched Margaret Cho with some friends (including [livejournal.com profile] binarykitten, who very nearly fell asleep on the floor, most adorable) and finished up some stuff on [livejournal.com profile] the_shag_pile. Discovered via the good folks at Booster con in L.A. this weekend that, as suspected, Christian Kane is nigh-perfect and Jonathan M. Woodward, in fact, is perfect. Kane's unfortunate fondness for marmite (aka: acceptable prep for corpse-licking as a sport) took him out of top spot. Sad, but true! And [livejournal.com profile] stoney321 - my dearest, darling Stoney who would never ever hurt me - posted more Ewan/Hayden. Bless her. I missed [livejournal.com profile] sweptawaybayou though. *longs*

How are YOU?

Have noticed the same now that I have stuck my head out of the TSP foxhole and looked around. I miss my fandom! *weeps* It's the only one I have!

But what stuff is out there has been high quality stuff. *g*

*hugs*

Very true! I just wish there were more of it. The folks I've been talking to have been fairly 'meh' on Buffy-related stuff - not for a lack of love, but just something indefinable. Kitten and I were saying it was like everyone's Dom had left the building. :p

I'm thinking that it's LJ that's a bit of a ghost town this summer. Maybe everyone else is traveling to fab places?

But yep. It's been slow.

I don't agree - I'm amazed that, so long after the shows finished, there is still as much as there is out there. I think there's still lots of great fics and artwork being produced - by both long-established people and newcomers. I just hope the disagreements that seem to happen periodically don't cause the entire fandom to implode.

There's stuff, yes, but not as much as I'm used to. Comments from readers are hard to come by, and I think it might be discouraging folks a little? I saw a banner go by a little while ago related to that - commenty appreciation day or something? Just seems like things are pretty quiet. I've seen a few posts to that effect.

There were lots of Giles/Wes fics yesterday because of the ficathon run by [livejournal.com profile] watcherlove. The masterlist is worth checking out, if you like that pairing [/marginal self-pimping]

Having never tasted the stuff, I cannot form an opinion of marmite but that makes not one wit of difference to me.

Chris is always gonna have top spot.

I'm assuming the chewing tobacco had deadened his tastebuds to the point where he was unaware of the horror GP had subjected him to, but the corpse thing?

I SO was not exagerating on that! Damn stuff ate its way through my skirt when I used it to scrub my tongue.

*shudders* *pulls Chris a bit closer and gets on with the Southern Comfort* *grins* *winks*

Having a smoking habit that colors my tastebuds, I'm not sure. If I get to ever taste the stuff I'll let you know what I think. Odds are, it won't be much, LOL!

Oh yes. Southern Comfort. Yummy!

I didn't so much nearly fall asleep on the floor as actually fell asleep on the floor. I have a tendency to do that, however. I like sleeping during movies - fewer nightmares.

Let's dig up the source of the problem and maybe to fix, mm?

Hmm. I don't know, but it seems like things are actually picking up a bit lately, or at least it seems so from the reports from [livejournal.com profile] su_herald. I churned out a fic and poll/discussion on souls in the Buffyverse within the last week. The Summer of Spike community is in massive full swing with multiple posts per day, and there's talk of doing a Winter of Wes. If there is a bit of a slump at the mo, it might be because HBP just came out and a lot of people are going to be preoccupied with that, or heck, it might just be that it's too dang hot to think.

From: [identity profile] entrenous88.livejournal.com
It doesn't seem slow to me. It just goes in waves. A few weeks ago, when the Schmangst-a-thon and the Music of Pain lists went up, there was so much fic I couldn't even catch up.

And yeah, when there are a few get-em-while-they're-hot kerfuffles, fic productivity slows, because people get involved in discussions.

Generally though, I have to stop responding to these fandom-is-slow-or-dying posts. Dude, I really don't even have time to respond to them (not just yours) because hey, I'm always behind on reading the fics that have been posted, I'm scrambling to find time to write my own fanfic, and trying to see all the new icons that get posted.

Again, I think there are dips sometimes, but I don't think a current issue, or people being on vacation or spending time with their families during at the traditional holidays/school's out time of July/August, means long-term malaise.

Date: 2005-08-02 09:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] winterlive.livejournal.com
I think it might be that holiday/malaise thing. Certainly, the dying thing is right out. That is crazypants. Maybe it's more of a "my flist seems a little down" post? *beeps your nose*
