I'm sure you've all heard, but I thought I'd say it one more time: my country is the best country in the whole fucking world.

Across the board legalization of gay marriage.  158 to 133 in the House of Commons.  If the senate fails to ratify the bill, it'll be the first bill in a hundred years they've failed to do, so that's extremely unlikely.

Jesus would be proud.

ETA: The places that beat us are the Netherlands (Amsterdam clearly rules) and Belgium (which has chocolate in abundance). Their total combined population is just under 27 million people. Canada's is just under 33 million. One step at a time.

ETA II: This Canada Day party, far as I'm concerned? Is a GREAT cause for celebration.

Vermont allows civil unions, as does Rhode Island. But if I recall correctly, when RI passed the civil union law, they did so with an accompanying clause limiting actual marriage to one man/one woman, so it was one of those "give with one hand, take away with another" sort of deals.

I'm plain old heterosexual married -- we're just cheering on the sidelines!

Know what's annoying? A two-party system. There's no way to punish the Liberals for being corrupt without electing Conservatives. Bleah.

I would like to note in passing that there are SOME Liberals who are corrupt, just as there are only SOME Conservatives who are complete bigoted idiots. I'd like to think the corrupt Liberals are less than the idiotic Conservatives, so we're coming out ahead. :)
