I love musical experimentation. And, different types of music - I was raised on everything from Cream and Rolling Stones, the Beatles, to Procul Harem, The Doors, etc.
(My dad used to pull out records for HOURS and say 'now here is this, and they were doing this thing that time...and listen to it closely) *eyes music collection* eclectic is an apt description of what I find appealing.
That Adam is experimenting and saying 'ooooh, can I DO THIS?' is wonderful and really refreshing - we are seeing him work things out and have a process when too much of what we see nowadays is 'here is the song...you can have a remix later.' Not enough people are fiddling around with their sound. *shakes head*
So yes, I would say he is definitely a musician. :) And it's lovely.
